On November 11th, 2025, The Kyoto Connection marks the 20th anniversary of a project that began one night in 2005 with a simple intuition and a desire to create soundscapes that could connect people across distances, cultures and inner worlds. To commemorate this milestone, we’re releasing a curated compilation of selected works from the last ten years.
A Decade of Expansion
While the first ten years of The Kyoto Connection (2005–2015) were rooted in synth pop, electropop and new age influences, the years that followed opened a new chapter. Between 2015 and 2025, the project explored a wider spectrum of atmospheres and moods: Japanese ambient, minimalism, contemplative sound design, experimental textures, and retro wave aesthetics.
This decade was especially prolific. Many albums, EPs and conceptual pieces were released, resonating with creative communities, meditation spaces, chill/ambient listeners and world-building artists around the globe.
About the Album
“20” is a journey through the environments that have shaped The Kyoto Connection’s sound and spirit in recent years. Each track was chosen to represent one facet of that evolution: introspection, warmth, brightness, nostalgia, expansion.
The album cover features a photograph captured during our recent trip to Japan. It shows Cielito — walking toward the lake at Kawaguchiko, under the quiet presence of Mount Fuji. The image became a symbol of what guides The Kyoto Connection: moving gently, listening deeply, and following the horizon of curiosity and wonder.
